The AFE031 is a 1500mA, integrated Power Line Communication (PLC) analog front end for driving low impedance lines

The AFE031 is a low-cost, integrated power line communication (PLC) analog front end (AFE) device capable of capacitive or transformer coupled connections to power lines under the control of a DSP or AON7200 microcontroller. It is ideal for driving low impedance lines requiring up to 1.5 A into reactive loads. The integrated receiver is capable of detecting signals as low as 20 μV RMS and offers multiple gain options to accommodate changing input signal conditions. This monolithic integrated circuit provides high reliability in demanding power line communication applications.

The AFE031 transmit power amplifier operates from a single supply in the 7 V to 24 V range. The wide output swing provides 12 V PP (I OUT = 1.5 A) capability from a nominal 15 V supply at maximum output current. Analog and digital signal processing circuits are powered from a single 3.3V supply.

The AFE031 has internal protection against overheating and short circuit conditions. It also provides an adjustable current limit. Provides interrupt outputs indicating current limit and thermal limit. There is also a shutdown pin that can be used to quickly put the device into the lowest power state. Each functional block can be enabled or disabled to optimize power consumption through the four-wire serial peripheral interface or SPI™.

The AFE031 is available in a thermally enhanced surface mount PowerPAD package (QFN-48). Operation is specified over the extended industrial junction temperature range of –40°C to +125°C.
